X-RAY diamond recovery machines have been in use in South Africa since 1968. X-RAY DIAMOND RECOVERY MACHINES were originally supplied by a South African company "GUNSON SORTEX (Pty) Ltd." and are known throughout the industry as "SORTEX MACHINES" The basic concept of operation of such X-RAY sorting machines is utilizing the fact that diamonds fluoresce and to some degree phosphoresce when exposed to X-Ray radiation. Light emitted from diamonds, which have been excited by X-Ray's is detected and converted into electrical signals. Such signals (after suitable amplification and processing) in turn are used to trigger an ejection device which physically separates the diamond from the rest of material fed through such a sorting machine.

OPERATING CRITERIA FOR AN X-RAY DIAMOND RECOVERY MACHINE
Be sure that YOU know what you expect the x-ray sorters to sort! DON‟T ask the manufacturer of such machines! The prime questions  that YOU have to ask and answer yourself are:
What size fraction of diamond concentrate do you wish to sort? What is the bottom size? What is the top size?
How many tons of diamond-differous material needs to be sorted per day?
How many hours per day do you intend to operate your x-ray diamond recovery machines?

One of the best examples is the fact that FLOW SORT machines have recovered numerous diamonds in Lesotho, which have been officially classified as “non-fluorescent “type 2” diamonds”. And here it is important to note that the relevant FLOW SORT machines operating in Lesotho are 2002 models, now 10 years old! If these sorters would be retrofitted with FLOW SORT’S high sensitivity optic system it would increase the sensitivity of these “old” sorters 10 fold! The fact that these diamonds which have been classified as being “non-luminescent” were recovered by FLOW SORT X-ray based diamond recover machines proves beyond any doubt that these diamonds do indeed emit light when exposed to X-rays. Enough light that even an “old” generation FLOW SORT machine can positively
detect!

Geologists, metallurgists and diamond miners have been talking about “LOW FLUORESCENT DIAMONDS” (LFD) and even “NON FLUORESCENT DIAMONDS” for as long as x-ray diamond sorting technology exists! Rumors and stories surrounding these LFD‟S have certainly made many suspicious and shy away from using x-ray based diamond recovery technology. It is however interesting to note that all the big diamond mining houses, all around the world, use x-ray sorters! This fact alone shows that LFD‟S are not very common and of little practical concern. The latest trend seems to be that various x-ray diamond recovery machine manufacturets claim that their machines are superior to those of their competitors when it comes to recovering these mysterious LOW-FLUORESCENT-DIAMONDS!

What is an “inspection service agreement”?
This is an agreement set over a period of 12 (twelve) months. (A total of 12 (twelve) site visits in the 12 (twelve) month period.) You simply place an order for such service (based on our quotation) and the contract starts!

How long does an inspection service take and how much time must you, the customer, allow for down time?
Our inspection service typically takes 2.5 (two and a half) hours per sorter. If major components have to be changed such as feed slide, feeder tray, feeder hopper gates etc. additional time must be added for such work.
